We have done it again, PEI/ Paradise Empowers has once again broken their fundraising record from the previous year!!!!! Even with our late start this year, for 2011 we have raised $6314.00 for The American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer!!!!!! The last time we checked Alyssa Fleury (who heads up our fundraising efforts with MSABC), was in 7th place as highest fundraising individual and team Paradise Empowers was in 36th place. Thank you to everyone for all your support and contributions.
This year’s Bake Sale brought in a record breaking $600.00, thanks go out to Alyssa and Craig Fleury who stayed up till 5:30 in the morning the day of the sale, baking all the cookies and muffins from the cookie dough and muffin mix that Nedrah Weaver donated, making cakes and cupcakes and decorating them in true pink breast cancer fashion. Thank you to Chris and Elizabeth Carver for donating their bikini cake, Amanda Cartledge for donating her cookies and helping to stay and work the sale, Jeff and Margot Deutsch for making the famous cheesecake, Rhoda Langford and Gayle Smith for their yummy brownies. A huge thank you to Sarah Ferguson, Ann Dobbertin, and Gayle Smith for helping advertise the Bake Sale, Sarah even walked our street corralling neighboring businesses to come over and show their support. We thank Jessica Chandler and Pirate Printing for the as always awesome t-shirts for the walk. Huge thank you’s to the entire staff of PEI for buying, donating, and participating in this year’s walk, we really couldn’t have done all of it with out you and your tremendous support!!!
On the day of the walk, it started off at a bitter 43 degrees with blustery winds, but we still had 20 of our closest family, friends, and co-workers show up to walk. The walk itself was a great display of love and support for all those affected by breast cancer. People lined the streets of Atlanta proudly adorned in pink cheering on the walkers as we passed by on the 5K walk. It was a breathtaking scene as we walked over the first hill to see the mass of walkers in front of us and behind us and an even more inspiring outpour of support as we crossed the finish line, you could barely hear yourself over all the cheers and music.
Next year, our goal is to become a flagship supporter for MSABC, we will need a minimum of 150 registered walkers and lots of donations. So please tell your friends and family about this year’s event and start planning for next year! If you need any information, please contact Alyssa Fleury (800-536-3374 ext 125 or afleury@shippei.com)
Hope to see you next year!!! Once again, THANK YOU!!!!! We are Making Strides Against Breast Cancer!

With the holidays approaching fast, PEI wants to take some time to give back to the local community. Our corporate office in Atlanta Georgia heads up a non-profit organization called Paradise Empowers. (http://www.shippei.com/about-pei/paradise-empowers/) This organizations aim is to assist at risk youth in the community. Paradise Empowers recently established a program to help educate teen parents through the beginning of their pregnancy and the beginning of their baby’s life based on the parents as teachers curriculum. This new program has inspired the Cincinnati office to team up with Mercy Maternity Home. (http://www.mercymaternityhome.org/) This organization shares many of the same views and goals of the Paradise Empowers Teen Parent Program and seems to be a perfect complement in to the program in Atlanta.
With that being said, PEI Cincinnati is starting a donation drive for Mercy Maternity Home. It will run between November 10th and December 8th. We will be looking for the below products to be donated for the home:
If you and/or your company decide you would like to participate in this drive with us we will make sure to deliver the donation in your company name on December 9th. We also invite you to pass this along to any other companies or individuals you may know. There will also be an open house at the home in December. Contact us if you’d like to attend.
You can either keep the collection at your office and let us know when it is complete so that we can come out and pick them up or you can drop them off at our office, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00a and 5:00p. See the address listed below. We really hope you will join us in helping a great organization during this holiday season. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to check out the links above or call us. We look forward to hearing from you all!

I was catching up on some work last night when a show came on AMC called The Walking Dead. The name rang a bell so I continued to watch and listened while I worked. It actually turned out to be a pretty interesting show storywise, and the make up and special effects were awesome. The story line took the main characters to an old baptist church which displayed a life size crucifix, and it was then that I realized that I knew why the name of the show sounded familiar to me... PEI actually shipped that crucifix from Seattle to Senoioa Georgia for the taping of that episode. I sat and smiled and thought "hey we're famous" and became more interested in the show simply because my company was a part of the production. It was kind of cool. Then my mind was set free following the white rabbit on how PEI could help other production companies in Georgia with specialized and critical shipping. How can we help you?

Liza Bryant brings the PEI “Family” 30 years of Airline and Aviation experience. She has held extremely diverse positions during her long career.
Liza started her love for aviation, while working in her home town of New York City. She rose quickly through the ranks at British Transport Hotels. Within months, she became Customer Service Supervisor. Upon hearing that Orlando was building a new airport, Liza decided to move her family to Florida. Her plan was to find a job with an airline. She was hired by Piedmont Airlines before the airport was completed. She was one of the first women to work on the ramp, loading aircraft. This was her favorite job at Piedmont. She was also cross trained in customer service, baggage service and weight and balance.
Liza left Piedmont to take a position with a “start-up” regional airline. She managed the baggage service department. Liza was then asked to transfer into the purchasing department. She was responsible for heavy maintenance checks and station provisioning. After the airline was sold to Braniff, Liza decided to try something totally different. Liza was offer a sales position for an aircraft repair station in Miami. After a short time in Miami, Liza decided that she missed her daughter back in Orlando, who was now almost grown-up, but still needed her Mom.
Fortunately, an MRO Page Avjet, offered Liza a new position. She was responsible for the acquisition of aircraft parts, for Kuwait and Saudi Arabian Airlines Having to interface 24/7, with such diverse cultures was extremely interesting for Liza. After a few years at the MRO, Liza was offered a position by a former boss. She became the Sales Director of a “start-up” parts distribution and repair station. In her next position she became the Marketing Director for an avionics and instrument shop. After several years Liza was offered a position as Regional Sales Manager for a “parts distribution” company, in Georgia.
After a few months in Georgia, Liza really missed her daughter and very young granddaughter. Fortunately, she was offered another position to move back to Orlando. Liza became the Manager of Purchasing and Repairs for a cargo airline for 12 years. Now Liza is onto another new “adventure”. She will be helping to expand and further develop the Aviation/Airline, Women Owned segment of PEI. She is very excited be able to use her years of experience to help PEI grow into a “brand name” logistics company.

On April 28th 2011 an EF3 tornado with winds of about 140 miles per hour destroyed 147 homes in our neighboring county of Spalding. At PEI we truly value community service and we were compelled to help – somehow. We reached out to Lt. Tim Henderson of the Spalding County Fire Department, who was in charge of the tornado relief effort and we were able to assist them with the transportation of supplies from a GEMA facility to their distribution center. In addition our non-profit organization Paradise Empowers donated $4,500.00 in gift cards to the families in temporary housing who were affected by the storm. Volunteers are still needed for clean-up of the community follow the link for more information:https://www.facebook.com/pages/Volunteer-Network-Tornado-Disaster-Relief-for-Spalding-County/201623573209883?sk=wall
Below is a picture of the path of the storm.
